NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – When the Tennessee Titans face the Kansas City Chiefs on December 21st, Patrick Mahomes will not be on the field.
The Chiefs quarterback tore his ACL in a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers over the weekend. On Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Mahomes avoided other significant damage to the knee. The QB had surgery Monday night and is expected to begin rehab immediately.
Mahomes, 30, will miss the team’s off-season program and his status for the start of next season is in question.
“It’s sad because, since he got in the league, he’s always been productive,” said Titans quarterback Cam Ward.
“Every year, whether it’s a down year for him or an up year, and not getting an opportunity to go against him…everything happens for a reason. I know God has a plan for him. Wishing prayers his way and you know, we’ll try to get a win next week.”
Gardner Minshew is expected to be the Chiefs starting quarterback for the final three games of the season. Kansas City has been eliminated from playoff contention.
The Titans host the Chiefs at 12pm at Nissan Stadium on Sunday.
