The Jaguars signed a new running back to the 53-man roster. Here’s why the move was made.
The Jacksonville Jaguars made an addition at running back, signing DeeJay Dallas to the active roster.
This move comes after the NFL Network reported that Bhayshul Tuten was going to miss time after undergoing surgery on a finger injury he sustained this past Sunday.
Dallas was a fourth-round draft pick in 2020 by Seattle, where he played his first four NFL seasons. Dallas then spent 2024 with Arizona, and appeared in three games this year with Carolina in Weeks 5, 6, and 12.
For his career as a ball carrier, Dallas has totaled 530 rushing yards, averaging 4.1 yards per attempt with four touchdowns.
His most productive season on offense came in 2022, when he rushed for 199 yards. Dallas has also been fairly active in the passing game, catching 64 passes for 407 yards with two more scores.
The addition of Dallas provides depth at running back while Tuten is sidelined, but his biggest impact may come on special teams as a return man — another role that Tuten filled.
In six NFL seasons, Dallas is averaging 24.7 yards per kick return on 84 attempts, with one touchdown, which came last year.
To make room on the 53-man roster for Dallas, linebacker Jack Kiser was placed on injured reserve. He exited Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury.
