Veteran kicker Younghoe Koo was waived on Tuesday.
Former Atlanta Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo was waived by the New York Giants on Tuesday. Despite starting the last five games for the Giants, Koo missed both of his field-goal attempts during Sunday’s 29-21 loss to the Washington Commanders.
The Falcons released Koo earlier in the season after he missed a game-tying field goal attempt during their Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former Pro Bowl kicker spent roughly six seasons in Atlanta (2019-2025) before losing his job back in Week 2.
Over 89 starts for the Falcons, Koo converted 178 of 205 field-goal attempts and 166 of 173 extra-point attempts. For the season, the 31-year-old has converted six out of nine field-goal attempts and 13 out of 14 extra points.
While he hasn’t performed up to his normal standards in 2025, the fact that Koo lost two jobs over a total of three missed field goals shows just how tough it is to survive as an NFL kicker.
After cutting Koo, the Falcons went with Parker Romo for the next few weeks. Once Romo began to struggle, the team made another change and signed kicker Zane Gonzalez in Week 10.
Gonzalez has stabilized the position for the most part, making 11 out of 13 field goals and all 11 of his extra point attempts. We’ll have to wait and see if another team attempts to claim Koo off of waivers.
