Baker Mayfield

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers season is starting to go completely off the rails. After starting off the 2025 NFL season with a 6-2 record, they have now lost five of their last six games and are fighting to keep their top spot in the NFC South.

The issue is, the Buccaneers are lacking talent, and are facing roster issues all over the team. One of the main issues that is starting to come up is their quarterback spot, as it is starting to look more like the Baker Mayfield era in Tampa Bay is coming to an end.

The Baker Mayfield Era is Over For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

When Baker Mayfield first ended up joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they were in the stages of having just had Tom Brady, and needed someone to come in and keep the production stable. That happened, as Mayfield went on to turn his career around by producing 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns with just 10 interceptions that season.

Fast-forward to this season, and now Baker Mayfield is starting to show signs of regression in the Buccaneers’ offense. The entire unit has struggled, ranking 16th in third down conversions, 21st in yards per game and 23rd in red zone scoring percentage. While things haven’t gone too great for the entire offense, it isn’t completely on Mayfield.

The Buccaneers have a new offensive coordinator in Josh Grizzard, and with his new offensive scheme it has led to struggles with scheming receivers open, especially against man coverage. This has led to Mayfield having more of an issue this season with getting the ball into tight windows when passing.

Tampa Bay’s offensive line has also been inconsistently injured, which is leading to Baker Mayfield facing more pressure, and less time to pass. Mayfield ended up suffering an AC Joint sprain in his left shoulder, which isn’t helping matters either. Still, though, there are major issues between the Buccaneers’ personnel and Mayfield’s passing ability declining that is leading to Tampa Bay struggling as a whole.

No matter what, Baker Mayfield has been playing well below-average, he is not making the throws he typically would, and isn’t seeing the field as well. The passing game is struggling, and it is something that is a clear issue. Mayfield might still be able to play, but it is clear that there are issues with Mayfield in Tampa Bay with their new offense, and it is time for both sides to make a split for the future.
