The Tennessee Titans lost more than a game in their Week 15 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, losing six key contributors to injury and pushing their already razor-thin depth to its limits.

As the Titans turn their attention to Week 16 and the Kansas City Chiefs, they will do so with questions swirling around their secondary. Cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis has been out battling an Achilles injury, and now safeties Mike Brown, Kevin Winston Jr., and Xavier Woods have been placed on injured reserve, ending their season.

This week, the unit will be challenged by head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs, although it will be journeyman Gardner Minshew, and not Patrick Mahomes, running the show. Mahomes suffered a season-ending ACL injury against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15 and will be lost for the season.

With Kansas City coming to Nashville with their playoff hopes already dashed, it should make for an intriguing late-season matchup that again gives us at Titans Wire an opportunity to steal someone from them, giving the Titans another foundational piece to build around.

The Chiefs have some talent that would make them attractive additions to the roster. Center Creed Humphrey is one of the best in the game, wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice are dynamic, and defensive linemen Chris Jones and George Karlaftis could all make an impact. Still, there is one player who could help take the Titans to the next level: Cornerback Trent McDuffie.

While the entire secondary needs an influx of talent due to their current injury situation, the cornerback position has been a struggle all season, and the Titans are deep into their depth chart. None of the cornerbacks that started the season at the top of the depth chart are available, and two, Jarvis Brownlee and Roger McCreary, are on different teams. This lack of depth has been exposed in recent weeks.

McDuffie is one of the top cornerbacks in the league and has been a standout since being drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. Although he enters the contest questionable with a knee injury, his addition could benefit the Titans now and in the future. At 24, McDuffie is a two-time All-Pro and widely considered one of the best players on the Chiefs’ defense.

Yes, the Titans struck out when they acquired former Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, but McDuffie is a different player, and one who made Sneed expendable. Tennessee needs a shutdown cornerback, and he is just that.

What are your thoughts, Titans fans? Would you pick Trent McDuffie or steal someone different from the Kansas City Chiefs? Sound off and let us know.Â
