Washington Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner is a future member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There’s no denying Wagner’s credentials: Super Bowl champion, 10-time Pro Bowler, 6-time first-team All-Pro, 5-time second-team All-Pro, NFL’s 2010s All-Decade team, and much more.
Although the Commanders‘ season hasn’t gone as expected in 2025, Wagner is still playing at a high level. His 137 tackles rank fifth in the NFL, and he also has six tackles for loss, three sacks and two interceptions. He’s struggled in coverage, but remains an anchor for Washington on and off the field.
Speaking of off the field, it’s been a good year for Wagner there, too. When Wagner initially signed with the Commanders in March 2024, he revealed that he was attending classes at nearby Howard University to obtain his MBA. He’s now a graduate of Howard University. Wagner revealed to reporters on Thursday that he finished up his coursework last week and plans to walk in the spring.
“From the outside world, if you do something else, then they feel like you’re not focused,” Wagner said, via John Keim of ESPN. “And then when you retire and don’t have nothing going on, they’re like, ‘Why you didn’t do something else?’ And so you can’t really listen to what people saying because they’re not you at the end of your career and trying to figure stuff out. I’m trying to break that concept.”
Yet another incredible accomplishment from Wagner, who is also active in the business world. In July 2025, Wagner became a minority owner of the WNBA’s Seattle Storm.
The Commanders have three games remaining this season. Wagner could make even more history. He has 1,975 career tackles. Only two players in NFL history have ever gone over 2,000 tackles: Ray Lewis and London Fletcher. It’s worth noting that the NFL didn’t officially record tackle statistics until 1978. The league began tracking solo tackles in 1994.
Fletcher, who spent his final seven seasons in Washington and is a current radio analyst for the Commanders, has been a mentor to Wagner over the years. Somehow, he’s still not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Wagner and the Commanders face the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. ET.
