Phillip Rivers discusses what he’s seen from Colts’ QB Anthony Richardson.
On the practice field on Thursday for the first time together were Indianapolis Colts’ quarterbacks Phillip Rivers and Anthony Richardson.
The two have been teammates for a little over a week now, but had met each other in the past.
“I got to meet him and know him a little bit in years past,” Rivers said, via Colts.com. “He’s been great in all the meetings and everything, obviously he’s dealt with some unfortunate injuries and as a real young player he’s the perfect example of one day at a time and just sticking with it. He’s got a lot of football ahead of him.”
Richardson has been on injured reserve since Oct. 12th with an orbital fracture.
From Thursday, the Colts have 21 days to add Richardson back to the 53-man roster. What the future holds for Richardson in that regard is still a bit of an unknown.
Likely a big part of that decision will be in how he progresses now back at practice.
Shane Steichen has already said that Richardson will be inactive for this week’s game against San Francisco. The Colts also didn’t bring Rivers in to “sit on the bench,” as Steichen put it.
The opportunity for Richardson to be on the practice field and in the meeting rooms with Rivers, a potential future Hall of Famer, will certainly be valuable, as it would for any quarterback.
“I mean, he’s a vet, he’s a pro,” said Richardson. “He handles his business. He knows how to ask the right questions to get information that will help him out on the field, I take that from him and I actually met with him last year a little bit just learning some football, so I know him a little bit, and he’s a great guy.”
