The Pittsburgh Steelers have a long list of notable injuries, but we at least saw positive signs of improvement with two key starters returning to practice Friday. OLB Nick Herbig (hamstring) and C Zach Frazier (triceps) are both back in uniform after missing practice throughout the week.
Here is Herbig going through individual drills with the outside linebacker group, per Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Brian Batko on X.

We won’t know at what capacity they practiced and their game status (if any) for Sunday until the Steelers’ final injury report comes out later this afternoon, but it’s a positive sign for both. If either miss this Sunday’s game, they are on track for a Week 17 return. We previously didn’t know much about Herbig’s hamstring injury. He missed the season opener against the New York Jets with a hamstring injury.
With T.J. Watt likely out with a lung injury suffered last week, Herbig also being out would create issues against the NFL’s No. 1 scoring offense. Alex Highsmith and Jack Sawyer would be the starters with Jeremiah Moon, who just re-signed with the team, and DeMarvin Leal the primary backups. If Herbig is available, that’s big news for the Steelers.
Frazier popped up on the Thursday injury report after practicing Wednesday. Isaac Seumalo is also dealing with a triceps injury, and since he doesn’t appear to be practicing that means he is likely out. With Dylan Cook likely to start at left tackle, Frazier’s presence in the middle as the primary communicator would be a big help to the left side of the line.
According to P-G’s Ray Fittipaldo, the Steelers have been toying with the idea of playing backup C Ryan McCollum at left guard so they can keep Spencer Anderson at tackle-eligible in their jumbo package. That won’t be possible if Frazier is unable to play, as they’d need McCollum at center and Anderson at guard. That would complicate one of the Steelers’ most effective offensive tools. Hopefully this is a good sign that Frazier will play in Detroit and that the line will be a little more stable on Sunday.
Stay tuned for the Steelers’ final practice and injury report of the week later this afternoon.
