If Trevon Diggs doesn’t play in Week 16, his career with the franchise, not just his season, could be over with the Cowboys. That’s not how Jerry Jones sees it yet, though, as far as the cornerback’s future in Dallas.

Asked on 105.3 The FAN if this might be the last chance for Diggs to ever suit up with Dallas, Jones denied that on Friday morning. He still may not be activated off injured reserve by tomorrow’s deadline, which would end his season regardless, but, as far as his future with the franchise, Jones thinks it’s too early to doubt whether or not he could be back with the Cowboys.

“Again, sure,” Jones said. “I don’t think I’ve seen, though it’s been connected, what he’s working through on this year’s availability. But, I think that’s a stretch to put that thing that far out. I know that, on my basis on looking at his situation, I don’t have that kind of attitude about him.”

Diggs, who hasn’t played this season since Week 6, has been listed as a limited participant at practice the past two days for Dallas. However, if not activated to the roster at the end of his three-week window by Saturday, after being on injured reserve since the end of October, he would be ineligible to play for the final three games for the Cowboys.

This has been another injury-ridden season, in his sixth year in the NFL, for Diggs. He has separately dealt with a concussion, as well as continued issues with his knees.

The thought was Diggs might have been able to return in Week 15, but he did not play again in the 34-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on ‘Sunday Night Football.’ Since he didn’t, reports have since emerged that his ties to the team have “soured” or “been severed,” which was likely the intent behind the question asked today of Jones.

“From the first conversation that we had, it was practice,” Diggs said when asked about not playing on Sunday, per Todd Archer of ESPN. “I guess I wasn’t showing them what they wanted to see in practice. This week, I showed them what they wanted to see in practice, and it’s still the same result. I don’t know what else I need to do or what to show. At this point, I feel like it’s not even, it’s not up to me or what I do. It’s really up to them, and what they want to do. I’m just showing up every day. I’m going to go to work.”

If this were to be the final season, Diggs would have to be moved somehow, as he still has three years remaining on his extension from the Cowboys. That could be by way of a buyout, or a trade this offseason, pending his status with Dallas or the market out there for the corner who is a former Pro Bowler and All-Pro.

It’s been an odd end to what’s currently just been a six-game season for Diggs. Still, Jones isn’t yet guaranteeing that it’ll be his last one with the Cowboys.
