In a short amount of time, Phillip Rivers has made a quick impact on this Indianapolis Colts’ team.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, a Colts‘ staffer told her that, “He controls the entire game. He’s a locker room leader. We all love him.”

An AFC executive said to Russini, “he watched in awe” and was “inspired” by Rivers’ performance. The executive also praised Shane Steichen for the game plan he put together.
The addition of Rivers provided this entire Colts team with juice and hope after losing Daniel Jones for the season. You could see that in the way they competed against a very good Seattle team on the road.
Rivers made the right pre-snap checks, was efficient, took care of the ball, and helped the Colts’ offense extend drives.
That style of play gave them a chance.
However, what this Colts’ offense has to work around is that the deep passing game was almost non-existent. The Colts barely lined up under center either, and that can impact the run game.

Up next for the Colts is a matchup with San Francisco. Rivers will again get the start. As Steichen said earlier in the week, Rivers wasn’t brought in to “sit on the bench.”
