Will rookie running back Woody Marks take the field when the Houston Texans return to NRG Stadium on Sunday to take on the Las Vegas Raiders?

Marks, who left Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with an ankle injury, was among the final names to appear on the injury report. He, alongside All-Pro cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., was listed as limited at practice. The difference between him, lineback Azeez Al-Shaair, cornerback Kamari Lassiter and offensive tackle Trent Brown is that the trio often misses Wednesday’s reps and returns by Thursday afternoon.

According to multiple reports, Marks will test his body and try to go during warm-ups before the team elects to make a final decision on his status.

Houston could be wise to let Marks rest since Nick Chubb returned to practice Wednesday after missing Sunday’s game with a rib injury. Marks’ rushing total was expanded at Arrowhead Stadium largely due to Chubb being unavailable in the second half after taking a hit in the second quarter.

Perhaps Houston elects to rest both Marks and Chubb following the success of former practice squad star Jawhar Jordan. In place of the injured Marks, Jordan became the first running back to rush for over 100 yards while averaging a season-high 6.8 yards per carry.

He also finished with two runs of over 20 yards, including one for a 49-yard gain.

“Whoever’s at the running back position it’s all going to be, first and foremost, about our offensive line, our tight ends and how we’re blocking the line of scrimmage. Our backs, we know anybody who touches the football they can be dynamic, they can make plays for us,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said Wednesday. “But it’s going to be about how we handle the front. The Raiders have a really good defensive front. They do a great job of attacking and causing disruption in the run game. It’s going to be a challenge to run the ball versus this Raiders defense.”

This season in 14 games, Marks leads the Texans in rush attempts (167), yards (584) and yards per game (41.7). The rookie also leads all running backs in receptions, receiving yards (204) and receiving touchdowns (3).

The Texans kick off at 3:30 p.m. on CBS. With a win, Houston would secure its third double-digit winning season under Ryans and Stroud. The Texans would also nearly be a lock to make the playoff, per the New York Times’ prediction odds, which has the back-to-back AFC South champions as a 98 percent favorite with a victory.
