In the three years before Sean Payton arrived, the Denver Broncos went 5-11, 7-10 and 5-12. In the three years since Payton took over, the Broncos have gone 8-9, 10-7 and 12-2 (with three games remaining this season).
With one more win this campaign, Payton would join Bill Belichick (seven seasons) as just the second coach in NFL history with 13 wins in five separate seasons. After previously winning a title with the New Orleans Saints, Payton is also attempting to become the first coach in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with two teams.

This week, Denver will host the Jacksonville Jaguars (10-4), a tough test as the team attempts to secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC’s playoff race.
“They’re doing a lot of things really well,” Payton said of the Jags. “They’re scoring. Mondays, I look at the touchdown reel, and there are a ton of good schemes. [Liam Coen] came up under Sean McVay, and so there are certain beliefs relative to what you’re going to get in the run and the pass game. I think the one thing that stands out, they’re plus-10 in the turnover ratio. They’re second in the league in interceptions. … So we have to be on point. They mix it up defensively. They have a really, really talented punt returner. As you look at them and you watch the tape, it’s a smaller market, but you see a real good team.”
Sunday’s game (2:05 p.m. MT) will be regionally televised on Fox (view the TV broadcast map). The Broncos are considered home favorites going into Week 16.
