McVay: ‘I love exactly where we’re at’
Sean McVay was understandably angry after the Los Angeles Rams’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday. His team blew a 16-point lead, gave up control of the No. 1 seed and may have lost Kevin Dotson for a while to an ankle injury.
Not to mention, he had to keep answering questions about his star receiver, Puka Nacua, and the headlines he made all week.
Because of their loss to the Seahawks, the Rams may have to go on the road in the first round of the playoffs instead of having a bye. They’re not out of the running for a No. 1 seed, but there’s no question their path to the Super Bowl just got tougher.
Just don’t tell McVay that.
“What about our ultimate goal got harder?” he said to a reporter during Friday’s press conference when asked whether the Rams can overcome their latest challenges.
Needless to say, McVay has no problem playing anyone, anywhere, at any time. He’s fired up about the Rams’ opportunity to bounce back and “couldn’t care less” about being at home or on the road.
“I love it. I love exactly where we’re at,” he said confidently. “I’m going to tell you this: Just like every other situation that’s come up this year, we’re going to come back swinging. This is going to be a setback that’s going to be a setup for a phenomenal comeback for us. I don’t look at it at all like that. This is a phenomenal, beautiful opportunity for us to respond. I’m grateful that our season isn’t over and that we have an opportunity to lean in and try to finish this thing strong. Whether we’re at home or away, I couldn’t care less. I’m ready to roll and I can’t wait to do it with this group.”
McVay didn’t necessarily take issue with the question, but he almost scoffed at the premise that the Rams hurt their chances of achieving their “ultimate goal” of winning the Super Bowl.
It’s not the way they wanted things to go down in Week 16 but they can still catch the Seahawks for the NFC West title and No. 1 seed. And McVay is confident that no matter what happens, his team can still win it all.
