Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has reached his breaking point with one of his key assistants.
Two days ago, Los Angeles suffered a 38-37 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It was a costly result for the Rams as they no longer control their own destiny. They’ll need help to earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

During Thursday night’s postgame press conference, McVay expressed his frustration with the NFL‘s officiating. Their was a controversial call made on the game-tying two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.
“When you’re able to review a two-point play, you split hairs on, alright, is it a forward pass? Is it a backwards pass? When you reject it, they casually pick it up, which you always do that. The whistle is already blown dead, mind you. Then they wait [a minute and fifty seconds] in real time to then go back and say, ‘We’re going to review this.’ Then it ends up getting called a two-point play,” McVay said, via Pro Football Talk.
“By rule, because it was considered a backwards pass and not a fumble, they were able to advance that. I do not believe that anybody would be in disagreement that those are not the plays we want in our game. That was not their intent. They were trying to throw a lateral screen. It got batted down and it was not a successful conversion but by letter of the law, it was. Those will be things that we’ll discuss. I do know this, those aren’t the kind of plays that you want to have people converting on. That’s not something that I can imagine anyone would argue with me on that. I would feel the same way if it benefited us, too.”

It turns out McVay was also frustrated with the Rams’ special teams unit on Thursday.

Changes in Los Angeles.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Rams have fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn.
“The Rams’ special teams played a role in three of the team’s four losses this season, including Thursday night’s defeat in Seattle, and now changes are being made,” Schefter wrote.
Blackburn has been the special teams coordinator for the Rams since 2023. Schefter noted that this is the first in-season coaching change McVay has ever made during his time in Los Angeles.

The Rams have everything they need to go on a Super Bowl run this postseason. However, their special teams unit needs to avoid making catastrophic mistakes in crucial situations.
