The New York Giants suffered another one-possession defeat in Week 16, as the Minnesota Vikings handed them a 16-13 loss, dropping their record to 2-13. The defeat marked the Giants’ ninth consecutive loss, extending their NFL-leading longest active losing streak.

There was, however, a consolation: The Giants remain projected to hold the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, per Tankathon. Following the Tennessee Titans’ victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, which gave Tennessee its third win, the Giants are now one of just two teams with two victories this season.

New York will face the other two-win team, the Las Vegas Raiders, on the road next week — a game many view as a de facto battle for the top draft selection.

The Giants will then close the season at home against the Dallas Cowboys, who have been eliminated from playoff contention and will have little to play for.

Losing their final two games would position the Giants to secure the No. 1 pick and could also increase pressure on general manager Joe Schoen, potentially leading to his dismissal.

Despite quarterback Jaxson Dart’s difficult outing on Sunday, in which he recorded only 33 passing yards, many within the organization believe he represents the long-term answer at the position. Should the Giants land the top pick, they would likely field trade inquiries from quarterback-needy teams.

The roster has significant needs across multiple positions. Acquiring the No. 1 overall pick would provide substantial flexibility and value to the franchise, whether the Giants keep the selection or trade it.
