The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t need anything other than a win on Sunday afternoon against the Cleveland Browns to clinch the AFC North, but it sure would be nice to have the option to rest starters. That possibility hinges on Saturday night’s matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers, a game that could get unpredictable with both teams dealing with quarterback injuries.

It probably won’t be the Jordan Love-led Packers against the Ravens, and may not even be the Malik Willis-led Packers either. Steelers fans might be tuning in to watch 2023 fifth-round pick Clayton Tune make his second NFL start with a chance to punch Pittsburgh’s ticket to the playoffs. Love suffered a concussion on Saturday. He could be cleared in time, but the Packers play on Saturday again. And according to Matt LaFleur, Willis’ shoulder injury could also be an issue.

“I’d say he’s pretty sore,” LaFleur said after Saturday’s game. “That’s a legitimate deal that he’s dealing with, and he’s going to be another guy that we’ll see where he’s at as we progress. That further complicates the other problem.”

Willis finished Saturday’s game against the Chicago Bears including overtime, but he appeared to suffer the injury on the final play of regulation. He was sacked by Montez Sweat and landed hard on his throwing shoulder. The Packers didn’t have a backup QB option with no emergency third quarterback on the roster, so he gutted it out and finished the game in a narrow OT loss.

The Packers might need to sign a veteran off the street to suit up next Saturday, but Tune would likely get the starting nod if Love and Willis are unable to play. His lone career start game in 2023 as a rookie for the Arizona Cardinals. He completed 12 of his 21 passing attempts for 62 yards, no TDs, and two INTs. That obviously wouldn’t bode well for a Saturday evening AFC North clinch in Pittsburgh.

Fortunately for Pittsburgh, Lamar Jackson may not be able to play either. He exited Sunday’s game with a back injury and was clearly in pain after the Ravens’ loss to the Patriots. Former Pro Bowl QB Tyler Huntley would start in his place. Could the Steelers’ early clinch end up being a bizarre Tune versus Huntley showdown? The Packers currently sit as 2.5-point home favorites, for what it’s worth.

Fortunately all the Steelers need to do is beat the lowly Browns to lock things up, regardless of Saturday’s results.
