OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – Sports Radio 810 WHB hosts expressed optimism about the Kansas City Chiefs’ announced move to Kansas, saying the decision keeps the team in the metro area while opening new opportunities.
At Sports Radio 810, host Soren Petro said the move was not unexpected after months of conversations about stadium funding options.
“This has been on the radar screen. This isn’t something that happened overnight,” said Petro, who has covered the Chiefs since 1994.

Petro said an indoor stadium would allow Kansas City to host events beyond football, including Super Bowls, college bowl games and Final Four tournaments.
“I think that’s what a dome does. It gives you the ability to host a Super Bowl, host a bowl game, playoff games in college football, Final Fours,” Petro said. “Kansas City is still a city that has hosted the most Final Fours in the history of the event. I think that’s a great tradition. They could get back into that.”
The radio host said Missouri has struggled to retain professional sports teams.
“State of Missouri has kinda made a habit of losing sports teams,” Petro said. “This is the eighth franchise in the big four to leave the state of Missouri.”
Despite the move across state lines, Petro focused on the fact that the Chiefs will remain in the Kansas City area.
“It means they stay in Kansas City,” he said. “I think that’s the biggest thing that people need to know.”

Petro said the new stadium could significantly increase event opportunities compared to Arrowhead Stadium.
“As diverse as they try to make the events at Arrowhead, I think it doubles, triples the events that they can have,” he said.
