Fans react to move to Kansas

  • December 23, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – Fans of the Kansas City Chiefs expressed mixed emotions after learning the NFL team planned to build a new $3 billion domed stadium in Kansas by 2031.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly announced the stadium will be built in Wyandotte County. The Chiefs will also construct their new headquarters and training facility in Olathe.

“Man, sounds exciting,” one fan said, while another added, “I’m kind of mixed.”

Sharon Smith, a Chiefs fan, said she thinks “it would be good for the Kansas economy” but acknowledged the emotional difficulty of leaving Arrowhead Stadium.

“Arrowhead has been there since the beginning and it would be kind of sad,” Smith said.

Other fans raised questions about the practical aspects of the move, particularly regarding traffic and congestion.

“Logistically, I don’t know how it would work. I think it might be a little congested and overwhelming, more so than it already is,” said Heather Salmon, a Chiefs fan.

Lawmakers had previously considered the Legends area as a potential site for the new stadium.

Despite concerns about change, fans expressed loyalty to the team regardless of location.

“Chiefs fans are going to go where the chiefs are. But it will be different,” one fan said.

Chiefs owner, Clark Hunt emphasized that the team’s iconic atmosphere comes from the fans, not the stadium itself.

“I think it will be different. But it could be better. But I think it’s going to take a while to build,” another fan said.

After years of speculation surrounding the team and a possible jump across the state line, many fans said they were relieved that a decision had finally been made about the team’s future home.
