There are only three certainties in life—death, taxes and Luke Kuechly knowing where a football is going.
ESPN—during last night’s prime-time matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts—debuted MNF Playbook with Next Gen Stats, a new “analytics-powered” presentation aimed towards the NFL’s “most avid fans.” The data-cast featured live probabilities, advanced metrics and AI-driven insights in offering up a deeper look into the game.
The special broadcast also featured Kuechly, who teamed up with ESPN personality and former quarterback Dan Orlovsky to provide some useful analysis for the contest. And the Carolina Panthers great, just like he did during his playing days, was able to sniff out a pick-six.
Watch and listen as Kuechly calls for this interception by 49ers linebacker Dee Winters . . .
Kuechly did that a time or two during his soon-to-be Hall-of-Fame career. In fact, he did it three times—two of which happened in back-to-back outings during the 2015 playoffs.
The seven-time Pro Bowler, five-time first-team All-Pro and 2013 Defensive Player of the Year is set to rejoin the data-cast in Week 17, when the Los Angeles Rams take on the Atlanta Falcons.
