The Chicago Bears gave the Green Bay Packers a taste of their own medicine, delivering a devastating loss to their rival in overtime. The Packers weren’t the only team leaving Week 16 disappointed. Minnesota lost its starting quarterback to another injury, and the Detroit Lions‘ hope for the playoffs continues to grow even thinner.

Here is how my five expectations for the NFC North for Week 16 played out:

Bears light up a Micah Parsons-less Packers defense

“The Bears’ offense, week after week, is improving and getting better in a different area. Throughout most of the season, the Bears’ run game has been the driving force for success. The Bears have been able to run on just about every team without any issue. Last week, the Bears dominated the Browns’ defense through the air. Caleb impressed and made little to no mistakes passing. This week could be the week the Bears put it all together against their foe, the Green Bay Packers. The Packers defense will be without Micah Parsons, and that will make their defense completely different. Their defense will lack a dominant pass rush, and their secondary will now more than likely get exposed. This week, I believe the Bears will put up 30+ points on the Packers and produce a very balanced attack. The passing attack and run game for Chicago will both be moving as one, efficiently. I think this game will be the best offensive performance the Bears have put up this season, and it will result in a huge Bears victory.”

The Bears did not light the Packers’ defense up; if anything, it was much of the opposite, at least until late in the game. Caleb Williams and the offense struggled until it was crunch time. In the 4th quarter, Caleb Williams and the Bears put up 3 straight scoring drives. In crunch time, yes, the Bears were unstoppable, but not in the exact way I imagined.

D.J. Moore will have the biggest wide receiver week in the NFC North

“The Bears are down to essentially just D.J. Moore and Olamide Zaccheaus versus Green Bay. With the game Moore had last week, that could be just enough to give him confidence to take it up another notch Saturday. D.J. Moore will have at least 100 yards receiving in this game, but he could end the week with the best numbers in the NFC North. The Packers’ pass rush will be limited, and the weather will not be a factor; the Bears’ passing game will pick up right where it left off last week. Caleb will find D.J. Moore early and often, and both will be clicking on all cylinders to lead the Bears to a great day on offense.”

D.J. Moore did, in fact, have the biggest game as a receiver in the NFC North with a touchdown and 97 yards receiving. His sole touchdown could go down as play of the year, and it ended up being the game-winning touchdown in overtime to beat the Packers. Albeit Moore’s numbers are down this year, he still is a top receiver in the NFL, and he showed that this past weekend.

Jordan Love plays the worst out of all the NFC North quarterbacks

“Jordan Love could be down many of the Packers’ crucial players on offense. As soon as injuries started piling up, Jordan Love started getting off script, and he threw two interceptions in the second half against the Broncos. I think it will be the same story against the Bears’ defense that is getting healthier, while this Packers offense is dealing with the opposite. Jordan Love threw an interception to start the game versus the Bears’ last matchup. I think he will throw two and struggle mightily.”

Jordan Love did get hurt in this one, as did J.J. McCarthy, so it would be a battle between those two for who put up the worst performance. Prior to both quarterbacks getting hurt, neither dominated. The Vikings, fortunately, were able to still get the victory, and the Packers’ offense could not find the endzone with Love in. So ironically, my prediction stood correct.

J.J. Mccarthy will light up the Giants defense

“J.J. McCarthy has shown immense growth over the last two weeks. McCarthy is coming off of leading an explosive offensive performance versus the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants have a good defensive line, but they are very vulnerable in the back end. I think Minnesota has a great offensive game once again; this time, however, the top receivers, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, will both contribute big time. McCarthy’s growth is important, but it is also time to get your best playmakers involved as much as they should be. If the Vikings can get this offense on the same page, that would be a huge win heading into next season.”

J.J. McCarthy’s injury-riddled season takes another hit. While McCarthy was building some momentum, with another injury, questions will continue to rise this offseason. I anticipated a decent passing performance from McCarthy, and even when he was in the game, I feel like I would have still come up short with my prediction regardless.

Lions season officially ends this weekend

“Sitting at 8-6 with three games left in the season, in many other years would be a great feeling. This year, however, for the Lions, there is zero margin of error. With how good the NFC is this season, you need to win at least 11 games to get into the playoffs, unless you win the NFC South division. The Lions face a Steelers team that is fighting hard to maintain sole control of their division in the AFC North. With many injuries the Lions have faced in the backend and the momentum they lost with last week’s loss, I think the Steelers put the nail in their coffin. Losing to the Steelers and the Bears winning Saturday would end the season, and I think that will be exactly how this weekend plays out.”

The Lions suffered a loss, as I imagined, another great football game from Week 16. It was a very devastating way to lose the game. While there is still a chance for the Lions to get into the playoffs, it feels as if hope is running out with this team.
