The Indianapolis Colts dropped their fifth game in a row, losing on Monday Night to the San Francisco 49ers.
Phillip Rivers and the offense allowed Indianapolis to hang around for much of the game, but eventually, the 49ers put the game out of reach.

As Shane Steichen pointed out afterward, Rivers “played really good,” outside of the late interception.
Rivers finished the game completing 23-of-35 passes for 277 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
One noticeable change with the offense this week was that Rivers was pushing the ball downfield more and found success doing so, averaging 7.9 yards per pass attempt.
Along with that, Rivers was quite good pre-snap, orchestrating the offense and making adjustments to put that unit in the best possible situations. To leverage Rivers’ experience, the Colts used more no-huddle to get him up to the line of scrimmage sooner.

“There’s no prize for losing,” Rivers said, via The Associated Press. “I know this locker room is hurting again. I’ve been part of it for a short time, two losses, and I know it’s been a long slide now for over a month. I know that’s tough because I’ve been part of those slides. We’ve just got to find a way to dig deep and find a way to win a football game.”
On the other side of the ball, the Colts’ defense couldn’t stop the 49ers’ offense whatsoever. San Francisco totaled over 400 yards while the offense put up 41 points and averaged 6.7 yards per play.
The Colts had zero answers. The pass rush mustered just one sack and one quarterback hit. The linebackers and defensive backs were picked apart in coverage.
Lou Anarumo attempted to throw different looks at the 49ers, but the Colts were out-matched at every level on defense.

“The name of the game is winning and that’s what they did. They got it done,” Rivers said, via NFL.com. “But I do feel like offensively we’re going to move the ball. But our job is to score more points than the other team, whatever that (number) may be. Last week, it was 18 and we didn’t get it done. This week, it would have been 41 if I hadn’t thrown the pick-six and we didn’t get it done.”
