Chad Ryland has missed six field goals in the last six games.
The Arizona Cardinals have created some competition at kicker. After Chad Ryland missed two more field goals on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, they signed a second kicker to the roster on Tuesday.
They signed Joshua Karty from the practice squad of the Los Angeles Rams. He was drafted by the Rams in the sixth round in 2024. As a rookie last season, he made 29-of-34 field goals with a long of 58 yards, and he made 32-of-36 extra points. He also went 4-for-4 on field goals and 5-for-5 on extra points in two playoff games.
This season, he kicked in eight games and made 10-of-15 field goals with a long of 51 yards and 23-of-26 extra points. He was released and then re-signed to the practice squad earlier this month.
The addition comes after head coach Jonathan Gannon spoke of his confidence in Ryland.
“I have all the faith in the world in him,” he said postgame Sunday. “I’m sure he wants some back, obviously just like everybody in there. I’ll keep putting him out there. I got faith in him.”
Ryland has missed field goals in the last five games he has attempted one. We can presume that Ryland and Karty will compete in practice this week and that a decision will be made on the roster spot.
