Albany, the Football Championship Subdivision in New York’s state capitol, has found its next head coach, sources tell FootballScoop.
In a search that, in some aspects had been ongoing since February of this year when former head man Greg Gattuso departed for a spot on then-Penn State head coach James Frankin’s Nittany Lions staff, is hiring Susquehanna head coach Tom Perkovich.
Coming off an 11-3 season atop the NCAA Division III Susquehanna program, Perkovich has led the River Hawks to an astounding 95 wins in his 11 seasons at the helm.
This year’s unit advanced deep into the NCAA D-III Playoffs before it succumbed to powerhouse Johns Hopkins University Dec. 13 in the quarterfinals.
But Perkovich has guided the River Hawks to unprecedented levels of success in his decade-plus at the helm. In addition to this year’s enduring postseason run, Susquehanna has amassed 10 or more wins in four consecutive seasons; the River Hawks are a remarkable 43-7 in their last 50 games under Perkovich.
