The Rams waived Christopher Smith II and cut Alex Johnson a month after adding both DBs
The Los Angeles Rams have shuffled their secondary often this season, primarily due to injuries suffered by Ahkello Witherspoon and Quentin Lake. They made a few more changes on Tuesday when they waived a backup from the 53-man roster and cut another from the practice squad.
The team announced it has waived safety Christopher Smith II and cut cornerback Alex Johnson from the practice squad. That opens up a spot on the active roster and the practice squad, which are likely to be filled at some point in the near future.
Both players were signed by the Rams on Nov. 19, adding some depth in the secondary after Lake went down. With Derion Kendrick now on the team as a backup corner, and with Josh Wallace playing well in the slot, the Rams are confident in the guys they’ve got.
Smith played 65 snaps on special teams and none on defense. Johnson was not elevated for any games during his time on the Rams’ practice squad.
