The health of Los Angeles Rams receiver Davante Adams is the biggest question mark heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
Adams missed Week 16 with a hamstring injury he sustained in Week 15, and his availability for Week 17 is in question despite head coach Sean McVay saying Adams is making “really good progress” this week.
With a playoff spot locked up and only seeding at stake, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported Wednesday that a team source told him “it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Adams miss Week 18 vs. Arizona” if Adams also misses the Falcons game.
“The goal is to ensure Adams is 100 percent for the first week of the playoffs,” Fowler wrote.
This is similar to what ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported recently, too. At 33 years old, it wouldn’t make sense to rush Adams back from a soft tissue injury that’s nagged at him all year.
While playoff seeding matters, the Rams proved in Week 16 that they can compete with their top red zone threat. L.A. wracked up a season-high 581 offensive yards in the overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks, including 457 yards and three touchdowns from quarterback Matthew Stafford. Puka Nacua is a clear No. 1 offensive threat, and the auxiliary pass-catchers proved to be effective enough in Adams’ stead.
At this point in the season, health in the playoffs matters more than regular-season wins.
