SANTA CLARA — Tight end George Kittle will not be on the practice field Wednesday, as the 49ers begin preparations for a key NFC game.
Kittle is sidelined with an ankle injury, but has a chance to play this week, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said on Wednesday.
The 49ers received some encouraging news with wide receiver Ricky Pearsall cleared for limited practice on Wednesday due to knee and ankle injuries.
Cornerback Renardo Green, who also sat out Monday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, was scheduled for limited practice.
The 49ers (11-4) take a five-game win streak into their game Sunday night against the NFC North-leading Chicago Bears (11-4), who currently occupy the No. 2 spot in the NFC playoff picture, while San Francisco is the fifth seed.
The 49ers can win the NFC West and claim home-field advantage in the playoffs with victories over the Bears and against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 18.
Defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos, who returned last week from a hamstring injury, has a scheduled maintenance day and will not practice, Shanahan said.
Kittle, who was named to his seventh Pro Bowl this week, had a season-high 115 yards on seven receptions in the 49ers’ 48-27 victory over the Colts.
Kittle appeared to be on the wrong end of two possible hip-drop tackles on Monday night. Shanahan said the two tackles were debatable, whether they were illegal acts.
Colts linebacker Germaine Pratt dropped Kittle at the end of a 12-yard pass midway through the first quarter. And early in the third quarter, safety Camryn Bynum dragged down Kittle at the left sideline at the end of a 22-yard play.
On the season, Kittle has 52 catches for 599 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games.
Pearsall has 31 catches for 443 yards in eight games. He missed six consecutive games with an injury to the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee earlier in the season.
Pearsall ranks behind only Kittle (59.9) and Christian McCaffrey (56.6) on the 49ers with 55.4 yards receiving per game.
Linebacker Tatum Bethune on Monday aggravated an ankle injury that sidelined him for three games but was cleared for full practice. He had nine tackles against the Colts.
Veteran linebacker Eric Kendricks stepped into the action after Bethune exited the lineup for 10 plays.
