Kansas State has a new assistant coach. New head coach Collin Klein continues to add to the defensive side of the ball by hiring a third defensive backs coach in Jeremiah Johnson. He is actually a Scandia, Kansas native that got his bachelor’s degree at the University of Kansas and actually worked under retired K-State head coach Chris Klieman at Loras College.
Johnson, like others that have already been announced to the Kansas State defensive staff, has extensive coordinator experience. He was the defensive coordinator at previous stints at Northern Iowa, Kent State, Louisiana Tech and most recently Coastal Carolina.
In fact, Johnson was named the Coastal Carolina interim head coach after Tim Beck was fired and will coach the Chanticleers in the Independence Bowl versus Louisiana Tech.
Klein’s staff is coming into focus. Along with Johnson, he named Jordan Peterson the new K-State defensive coordinator who will work with defensive backs, announced Marcus Woodson as the Wildcats’ new co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach and retained Buddy Wyatt as the Kansas State defensive line coach.
Other hires have included K-State general manager Trey Scott, quarterbacks coach Christian Ellsworth and special teams coordinator Stanton Weber.
