The Tennessee Titans should leave no stone unturned in the upcoming search for their next head coach. Since firing Brian Callahan after Week 6, general manager Mike Borgonzi and president Chad Brinker have been gathering a shortlist of candidates to interview. That list could include coaches with ties to the franchise such as Mike McCarthy and Matt Nagy.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini recently provided an update on the Titans’ coaching search. Russini’s report includes seven names who allegedly might make an appearance on the Titans’ wishlist. Potential options are coming in fast and furious.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is the latest national analyst to mention a name in the Titans’ coaching search. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is expected to be a candidate for the New York Giants’ vacancy. Fowler goes on to mention that the Titans have shown interest as well.

Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman could emerge as shocking candidate in Titans’ head coaching search

“Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman’s name has been heavily circulated in recent weeks,” Fowler wrote. “Here’s what I know. Yes, the Giants are expected to have interest in him when the carousel kicks off. But the Titans have done their research, too.”

Freeman took charge of Notre Dame in 2021 and has spent the previous four college football campaigns as their head coach. The former NFL linebacker has compiled a stellar record of 43-12 and led the Fighting Irish to a National Championship appearance in 2024. Much to the dismay of Freeman and the entire program, Notre Dame was controversially denied entrance into this year’s College Football Playoff.

The Titans could be looking for a strong personality to right the ship after whiffing terribly on Callahan. Freeman presents himself as a true leader of men and legitimate culture builder. If Freeman agrees to interview with the Titans, he could emerge as a serious candidate in Borgonzi’s coaching search.
