The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tre Flowers to fill DK Metcalf’s roster spot after his suspension, the team announced on Thursday. Metcalf is down for the rest of the regular season, but Flowers will help fill some of the depth voids the team has at cornerback.
Currently, the team is missing slot cornerback Brandin Echols with a groin injury. He did not practice on Wednesday. However, they did get outside cornerback James Pierre back on Wednesday after he missed two games with a calf injury, but it is still unknown if he will play.
Flowers played in just two games for the Detroit Lions earlier this season before they released him. He started out his career with the Seattle Seahawks, playing with the team from 2018 through 2021 out of Oklahoma State.
After his departure from Seattle, Flowers has played in multiple different spots, including the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Indianapolis Colts.
Flowers has 22 pass deflections and four interceptions over his career and can also bring special teams value to the roster as a punt gunner.
That might be what attracted the Steelers to him in free agency as they looked to fill in some depth voids with Metcalf now on the league’s suspension list.
