The Raiders haven’t achieved a lot with Geno Smith at quarterback this season, but every indication is that Pete Carroll won’t be going away from his hand-picked quarterback for the final two games of the season.

Despite the fact that Aidan O’Connell, Kenny Pickett and Cam Miller could have a future in Las Vegas, Lincoln Kennedy said this week that Carroll isn’t about to change his approach at quarterback.

“Pete Carroll’s not changing. He’s been loyal [to Geno] all season. He’s not changing,” Kennedy said on the Locked on Raiders Squad Show podcast.

“Why change now? I mean, look, this is this is your ride or die guy. He came with it. Even when even when Geno was hurt or banged up, [Pete] still didn’t make the switch. It’s not going to happen.”

Kennedy’s co-host, Q Myers, added his thoughts on the quarterback situation in Las Vegas and said he believes the next two games with be Geno’s final two games with the Raiders.

“The fact that we’re talking about this is his best performance since week one, and he literally gave the Texans points, it tells you the season that he’s had,” Myers said.

“It just has not been what I think any of us thought it was going to be when they made the trade with Seattle with them. I thought he was going to at least stabilize and kind of calm down the waters at the quarterback position until they could find their franchise guy,” Myers continued. “But to me, and this is just me, of course, we’ll see what happens in the off season. I think this is a one and done experience with Geno Smith.”

“I just I don’t see any reason to usher him back next year. I know that they’re on the hook for $18.5 million guaranteed, but Denver has showed and Miami is going to show that 18 and a half million ain’t nothing. You can overcome that as far as I’m concerned.”

One of the biggest challenges for Smith going forward is going to be his relationship with the organization and the fan base.

If Carroll is fired after the season, Geno will lose his biggest advocate in the building.

Additionally, the fans have been fed up with Geno for the better part of three months and his bird-flipping incident in November was one of the most embarrassing points of the season.

A respectable end might reflect well on Carroll and his veteran quarterback, but it’s hard to imagine either of them coming back after the colossal failure the 2025 season has been.

At this point, the only development that could damage the season more would be a win against the Giants or Chiefs that might drop the Raiders down from the no.1 pick in the draft.
