Phillip Rivers’ old team has to provide the Indianapolis Colts with some help in Week 17 in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Colts find themselves at 8-7 on the season, and their playoff hopes are barely hanging on. Along with needing to win out over the final two weeks, the Colts need help as well.

Some of that help could come from the LA Chargers on Saturday afternoon when they take on the Houston Texans.

A big part of the equation when it comes to the Colts’ playoff chances is that the Texans have to lose their final two games.

Rivers, of course, spent almost the entirety of his career with the Chargers.

“Oh yeah, I’m sure I’ll be tuned in,” Rivers said of watching the Chargers vs. Texans game. “I’ve never been one to say I don’t want to see — that’s like being a fan, right? You feel like if you’re pulling for them, and that will be an easy one to pull for, right? Pulling for the Chargers will be an easy one to pull for. So it felt like if you’re pulling for them, you’re helping them out a little bit.”

Rivers was the fourth overall pick by the Chargers in the 2004 NFL draft. He played 16 seasons with the team, which included making eight Pro Bowls.

Depending on the outcome of this Texans vs. Chargers game, the Colts could be eliminated from playoff contention before they kickoff their game with Jacksonville on Sunday.

The Colts find themselves in this position after losing five in a row and six of their last seven games.
