LSU has contacted former Florida quarterback DJ Lagway and his representatives ahead of the transfer portal’s opening on January 2, per Louisianasports.net’s Matt Moscana. Lagway is 247Sports’ No. 2 quarterback in the portal, just behind former Cincinnati Bearcat Brendan Sorsby.
Moscana’s source claims that Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin is not ready to accept a commitment until he knows which quarterbacks will be available.

If true, this suggests one thing about LSU’s quarterback situation: Kiffin is likely waiting to see if his former quarterback, Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss, will be granted a final year of eligibility — and if he’ll be willing to leave Oxford for Baton Rouge.

The reason this feels like Kiffin’s reasoning is that most quarterbacks planning to enter the transfer portal have already announced their intentions. There are likely a few still planning to leave their respective schools, but for the most part, the quarterback class is set. All except the quarterbacks in the College Football Playoff — one of whom is Chambliss.
He still hasn’t been granted that eligibility, however. Lagway still has two more years left, so it’s good to know that Kiffin is planning for the possibility that his former quarterback either isn’t interested in Baton Rouge or isn’t granted his extra season.
