Amazon MGM Studios has decided to produce a movie about legendary NFL coach and commentator John Madden.
Madden is undoubtedly one of the most influential figures in NFL history. While some fans adored him as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders, others loved his commentary for FOX and NBC. Those who were unable to witness his greatness still know who he is because his name is used by EA Sports for its best-selling football video game.
Back in 2023, Amazon MGM Studios announced it would make a movie on Madden that would focus on “his Super Bowl-winning partnership with fellow coach Al Davis and the Raiders, to creating Madden NFL, and becoming one of the most iconic voices in football history.”
It was announced that Nicolas Cage would play the role of Madden. Legendary actor Christian Bale, meanwhile, would portray Al Davis.
An official teaser for “Madden” was released on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, it didn’t receive a warm welcome from the NFL world.

Madden miscast.
“Maybe it’ll work, but Nicholas Cage as John Madden strikes me as absolutely ridiculous casting,” Sam Monson of The 33rd Team said.
“Nic Cage looks like the worst casting in history,” one person wrote on X.
“This is so bad it’s to the point of being distracting,” a fan declared. “He looks nothing like Madden. Fat Nic Cage in a bad wig is all I can see here. Good grief.”
“I don’t see Cage as Madden…won’t watch it,” another fan commented.
This film was written and directed by David O. Russell, who directed notable films such as “The Fighter” and “Silver Linings Playbook.”
“Madden” is set to release on Thanksgiving 2026.
