Terms & Conditions Jacksonville Clinched Their Playoff Spot
The Jacksonville Jaguars will have a seat at the postseason table, as they have clinched their playoff spot by winning each of their last six games. The Jaguars are red hot, but have not yet locked up the AFC South Division, as the Texans are lingering behind them in the standings. Houston is one game back, with two games remaining on the schedule. Jacksonville closes their season with this matchup with the Colts, then one more game against the Titans from the bottom of the division. Last week, the Jaguars got 279 passing yards and three touchdowns from Trevor Lawrence in their win over Denver.
Lawrence has been an enigma through the first several years of his career, he never quite reached the potential some were anticipating after being selected first out of Clemson, but has shown flashes of that brilliance along the way. Lawrence has a chance to prove any doubters wrong by leading the Jags deep into the postseason this season. He is averaging 232.6 passing yards per game with a 26-11 TD-INT ratio, while completing 60.0% of his passes. Lawrence can run when he needs to, he has 322 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Their top back is Travis Etienne Jr., he has 999 yards so far with seven touchdowns.
Parker Washington is developing into an elite receiver, the 5’10 23-year old had 145 yards last week against Denver. On the year, Washington has 645 yards, while Brian Thomas Jr. has added another 619. Their defense has 29 sacks and 19 interceptions on the season. Some of their top defensive performers include LB Devin Lloyd (71 tackles, 5 interceptions), DE Josh Hines-Allen (7 sacks) and LB Foyesade Oluokun (112 tackles).

The Indianapolis Colts have a slim chance to make the playoffs, but will know more about their road when this game kicks off. First, the Texans to lose to the Chargers on Saturday (Note: This article was published before Saturday’s results). Then the Colts need to win this game against the Jaguars, setting up a Week 18 matchup with the Texans for a playoff spot. Indianapolis needs a lot of things to fall their way to get in, but there is still a chance. In last week’s matchup, the Colts took their fifth straight loss when they went down against the 49ers.
Philip Rivers had 277 passing yards and two touchdowns in the loss against San Francisco. The 44-year old is attempting to get back into his old rhythm after coming out of retirement. He has played in the last two games, with a 3-2 TD-INT ratio while completing 66.1% of his passes from the pocket. Rivers did not run much when he was younger, so do not expect the veteran to be moving the chains with his legs in this one. Jonathan Taylor is 2nd in the NFL in rushing with 1,489 yards, and still has a shot at the rushing title as he is just 43 yards behind James Cook from Buffalo with two games left.
The Colts have plenty of options in the passing game, including Alec Pierce (871 yards), Michael Pittman (757 yards) and Tyle Warren (748 yards). Pittman has the most touchdowns with seven. Their defense has 37 sacks and 13 interceptions. Their top players on defense include DT Laiatu Latu (7.5 sacks), S Cam Bynum (4 interceptions), and LB Zaire Franklin (108 tackles).

Public money is likely to be heavy on the Jaguars due to recent trends, and the line has already moved in that direction as it opened at 5.5 but has been bet up to 6, with some books up to 6.5, as bettors are backing the Jags. I will fade this trend, as Philip Rivers is now in his third game with the team, and the Colts have more to play for. Indianapolis is fighting for their playoff lives, and this is still a strong roster despite their fluctuation at quarterback. Rivers is a potential Hall of Famer, and will continue to learn this offense and improve his efficiency. We already saw this over the first two games, as he opened with just 120 yards against the Seahawks, but bumped that number up to 277 in the following week. The Jaguars will get comfortable, as they already clinched their playoff spot. The Colts with the points is the play.
Take the Colts plus the points
Total pick and prediction for Jaguars vs. Colts
This divisional matchup will see more defense than offense, as each team still has a lot to play for, which will lead to conservative coaching decisions. These teams both have excellent running backs, which will lead to longer drives that see the clock ticking as the ball carriers get tackled in bounds. Taylor is in the hunt for the rushing title, while Etienne will go over 1,000 yards on the season in this game. Rivers is running the Indianapolis offense, and he has been playing it safe so far with many screen passes and check downs. The Colts have scored under 20 in three of their last four, while Jacksonville has held opponents to 20 or fewer in all of their last four games.
