Dolphins defeat Buccaneers, Jaguars overcome Colts | NFL wrapup video
Despite a loss to the Dolphins, the Bucs can still win the NFC South by defeating Carolina in Week 18; the Jaguars take care of business vs. Colts.
Yes, the Jacksonville Jaguars have made the NFL playoffs. They clinched a spot last week with the combination of beating the Denver Broncos and the Indianapolis Colts losing to the San Francisco.Â
The Jaguars (12-4) also control their own destiny in winning the AFC South after beating the Colts 23-17 on Dec. 28. The Jags, who play at EverBank Stadium on Jan. 4 against the Tennessee Titans at 1 p.m., are one game ahead of the Houston Texans (11-5), who will play at home on Jan. 4 against the Colts at 1 p.m.Â
How can the Jaguars clinch the AFC South?
The Jaguars will clinch the division with a victory over the Titans, regardless of what the Texans do against the Colts. The Jaguars can still clinch with a loss, as long as the Texans also lose.Â
The Jaguars beat Tennessee 25-3 in Nashville on Nov. 30.
If the Jaguars lose and Houston wins, they will be tied at 12-5.Â
The Jaguars and Texans split during the regular season, but Houston has the next tiebreaker, which would be record within the division. Should the Jags lose and the Texans win on Jan. 4, Houston will have a 5-1 division record and the Jaguars would be 4-2, giving the Texans the division title and dropping the Jaguars to wild card status.
That’s important because as a wild card, the Jaguars won’t have a home playoff game unless they win, and face another wild card seeded lower.
What could be the Jaguars’ seed and who will they play?Â
The Jaguars are currently the third seed in the playoffs. If they win the division and hold that spot, and nothing changes behind them, they will play the sixth seed, currently the Los Angeles Chargers, at home on the weekend of January 10-11.Â
The Chargers (11-5) lost to the Jaguars 35-6 on Nov. 16. They won their next four games, but lost 20-16 to Houston in their last game. The Chargers close the regular season at Denver on Jan. 4, but the Broncos have already clinched the AFC West.Â
