ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed what he believes the Indianapolis Colts’ plan is at quarterback for the upcoming offseason.

Schefter explained on a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show:

“I think they are banking on Daniel Jones being back,” said Schefter. “I do think that they’ll re-sign him. I do think he’ll be ready for the start of the season.”

Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in the Colts‘ Week 14 matchup with Jacksonville. On the season, Jones had completed 68% of his passes at 8.1 yards per attempt with 19 touchdowns to eight interceptions.

The Colts signed Jones to a one-year deal last March. He is set to be a free agent in 2026.

If the Colts do want Jones back, a potential hurdle in all of this could be what Jones’ next contract looks like.

Determining the length of the new deal and how much of it is guaranteed, with Jones coming off a major injury, could impact negotiations. We also do not know if there are other teams with an interest in Jones who will get involved.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently mentioned the franchise tag as an option, but that comes with a hefty price tag of over $40 million.

Another variable in all of this is what if the Colts make changes at GM and perhaps head coach? Do new leaders want to go in a different direction?

Given Jones’ play, the success that the offense had, and his fit with this Colts team, it’s easy to see why Indianapolis wants him back. But there are potential obstacles that have to be navigated first.
