CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The father of a 13-year-old Bengals superfan who died from an asthma attack plans to honor his son at Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
Kaydyn Gaines-Keo died Dec. 15, six days before his 14th birthday, after battling asthma since birth.
His father Jordan said they had been in and out of hospitals for as long as he could remember, but Kaydyn managed with treatments that helped.
The teenager played flag football for three seasons, with his father coaching him for one.
Their team was named after Kaydyn’s favorite NFL team — the Bengals. He never got to see the team play in person.
Just before Thanksgiving, Kaydyn got a simple cold that triggered a severe asthma attack. Weeks later, he died.
His family wrote a letter to Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase asking for an autograph, hoping to bring it back home to lay on Kaydyn’s memorial table.
“Even if they didn’t get to read it, you know what I mean just being here and saying his name on TV and just letting everybody know how much of a fan he was and I have said before I know I’m not the first person to tell them how much of an inspiration that they are, but me being my son’s voice is meaningful to me,” Jordan said.
Jordan plans to attend Sunday’s game wearing Kaydyn’s customized Bengals jersey. He said this has been a long month, but keeping his son’s memory alive is what’s driving him.
