It’s fair to say the Pittsburgh Steelers roster is in a serious state of flux right now. On offense, the Steelers are looking for answers at quarterback, running back, offensive tackle, and wide receiver. But on defense, things are much better.
Pittsburgh has traditionally focused their spending on the defensive side of the football and this has allowed them to remain competitive regardless of the issues on offense. A big part of that has been the strength of the defensive line. Pro Football Focus recognized this when they listed the Steelers defensive line as the best of the best on Instagram.
At first we were a bit puzzled by this. Don’t get us wrong, we love Cam Heyward and belive he’s as good as any defensive tackle in the game. But nose tackle Keeanu Benton had a down season and Derrick Harmon is a rookie.
Then it dawned on us. PFF puts this together by including the edge rushers, which would factor in T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith. So, in total, it makes sense they would include Pittsburgh at the top despite the struggles of the Steelers pass rush in 2024.
