KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Chiefs are preparing to close out their worst season in a decade when they travel to Las Vegas to face the Raiders on Sunday.
For the first time in 11 years, the Chiefs are gearing up for their regular-season finale, knowing it will also be their last game of the season after missing the playoffs.
“Yeah, I want to keep that a strange feeling,” head coach Andy Reid said. “You don’t like ending right now, obviously, but that’s what it is. And then you got to go back and fix things.”
The Chiefs will face a 2-14 Raiders team that could secure the number one pick in this year’s NFL draft with a loss.
“Both teams are going to come out swinging,” quarterback Chris Oladokun said. “Obviously, the narrative is that the Raiders are going to lay down because they want the number one pick. That’s not going to happen.”
Oladokun is preparing for his second career NFL start following his Christmas Day game against Denver.
“It is the Raiders, and so we understand that,” Reid said. “It doesn’t really matter what the records are. It’s still those two teams playing each other.”
The game will serve as an evaluation opportunity for several Chiefs players who usually see limited minutes.
“I think for their careers it’s great to get stuff on tape – plays on tape. I think from an evaluation process for (General Manager) Brett (Veach) and the coaches, I think it’s a good time to look at them in a game – a real game. It’s different from the preseason. It’s different than training camp and so on.”

Patrick Mahomes’ ACL recovery timeline brushes up against the start of next season. Backup Gardner Minshew, who also suffered a fractured tibial plateau against the Titans, is on a one-year deal for this season.
For Oladokun, the game provides another chance to prove he can be the quarterback to carry the Chiefs through the offseason.
“I think this game will be another audition for that,” Reid said. ”I think he did a nice job last week in the time he had to execute and jump in there the week before. So, we’ll just see where he continues to grow at.”
“If you’re on the field, you should be playing to win,” Humphrey said.
“My sole focus is on this week and ending the season the right way,” Oladokun said. “Finishing off with a win would be really good for us heading forward into the offseason and give us some confidence.”
The Chiefs are undefeated at Allegiant Stadium, including a Super Bowl victory at the venue.
“None of us expect them to lay down,” Oladokun said. “We’re both going to be playing to win.”
Sunday’s game kicks off at 3:25 p.m. on KCTV5.
