Supreme self-confidence is a key element to the success of just about every NFL player, and it’s no different for Green Bay Packers cornerback Trevon Diggs.

The two-time Pro Bowler spoke with reporters on Thursday, January 1, just days after the Packers claimed him off waivers. Diggs was available to Green Bay for Week 18, plus the team’s playoff run, because the Dallas Cowboys chose to release the defensive back with three years remaining on his $97 million contract at the age of just 28.

The lack of faith in Diggs displayed by the Cowboys via that decision, plus three consecutive seasons of injury issues (29 missed games since Week 1 of the 2023 campaign), might reasonably shake most professional athletes.

But not Diggs.

“Still feel like I’m the best,” Diggs said.

The numbers don’t back up Diggs feelings on that topic. The eight quarterbacks Diggs has seen this season have posted a collective rating of 157.2 when targeting the cornerback in coverage. For context, 158.3 represents a perfect rating.

It is possible that a change in coaching, scenery and teammates could help reinvigorate Diggs’ play before what could be an upcoming free agency period in March 2026. The Packers owe Diggs $472,000 for Week 18 no matter what. Green Bay will write him a check for an extra $58,823 if he is on the active roster against the Minnesota Vikings for the January 4 matchup.

The Packers will have options with Diggs once their postseason concludes, as he has no remaining guaranteed money left on his deal. The team could opt to try and renegotiate a new agreement with Diggs, it could continue to pay him on the non-guaranteed totals he already has moving into 2026 or Green Bay could release him after the playoffs conclude.

Two things that should offer Diggs some incentive and excitement down the stretch are that the Packers will be a playoff team no matter what, having already locked up the No. 7 seed in the NFC. They will travel either to Chicago to play the Bears or Philadelphia to play the Eagles in Round 1, depending on the results of those two teams’ games over the weekend.

Diggs is also reuniting with his former Cowboys teammate, star pass-rusher Micah Parsons. Parsons won’t be on the field at any point for the remainder of the campaign due to an ACL injury, for which he underwent surgery earlier this week. However, Parsons has been active on social media since Diggs landed in Green Bay. He has also spoken with Diggs personally about what the change will mean for him in the immediate.

“He told me it’s work,” Diggs said to reporters of Parsons on Thursday. “It’s a lot different, and he said I’m gonna like it a lot.”
