Denver Broncos star Nik Bonitto won two awards on Friday.

Both carry great significance for the franchise.

Bonitto took home the 19th annual Darrent Williams Good Guy Award and fifth annual Demaryius Thomas Team MVP Award. He’s the first player to earn both honors, named for two great Broncos who passed away far too young.

“I want to appreciate you guys for voting for me for both awards. It honestly, truly, is an honor to get recognized not just for my play but for my character as a person. Knowing the two guys before me that are named after the awards with Demaryius and Darrent being such high-character guys in the locker room and in Denver,” Bonitto told the media who selected him.

On the season, Bonitto has started 15-of-16 games for the Broncos. In total, he has recorded 44 tackles (30 solo), a team-high 12.5 sacks, 26 quarterback hits, one pass defensed and one forced fumble.

Still, Nik Bonitto kept the focus on both Thomas and Williams even after everything he’s accomplished this year.

“They’ve held such a high standard and I’m just trying to live to that standard every day, just be here and being able to work with you guys and just being that type of guy for my teammates. It truly is a blessing, and I really do appreciate you guys,” Bonitto said.

Next up for Nik Bonitto and the Broncos is a chance to clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC on Sunday with a win over the Chargers.

They’ll need him to be at his best in this game and hopefully a deep playoff run that ends with an appearance in the Super Bowl.
