Aaron Glenn is expected to remain the New York Jets’ head coach for the 2026 season, despite a first year that has gone about as poorly as possible.

Whether fans agree or not, Glenn is slated to return for another season.

However, that does not mean that the rest of New York’s coaching staff is getting a free pass.

Fourteen games into the season, Glenn dismissed defensive coordinator Steve Wilks. According to NFL insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, the Jets have already begun doing their “homework” on potential defensive coordinator candidates, with a formal search expected to begin once the season officially concludes.

This report follows SI’s Albert Breer, who shared a few days ago that, while offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand is expected to return next season, changes are anticipated on the team’s offensive coaching staff.

“As it stands now,” Breer wrote on Wednesday. “I think it’ll mean changes around OC Tanner Engstrand, with perhaps some more quarterbacking infrastructure, rather than replacing him.”

As for the defensive coordinator position, there will be no shortage of options for Gang Green to consider this offseason.

Who the Jets ultimately hire will play a significant role in shaping their broader offseason approach. With holes across every level of the defense, New York is expected to invest heavily on that side of the ball, and the next defensive coordinator’s scheme and philosophy will help dictate how those upgrades are made.

The head coach is staying. The changes around him will be something for Jets fans to monitor with New York’s season coming to an end on Sunday.
