The final addition to the seven-team NFC playoff field remained uncertain Saturday night after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers held on for a 16-14 home win over the Carolina Panthers.

The result allowed both the Bucs and Panthers to remain alive despite 8-9 records. It also left their fate to the outcome of Sunday’s 1 p.m. game between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints. A Falcons’ win punches the Panthers’ ticket to the postseason for the first time since 2017 while a Saints’ victory will give Tampa Bay its fifth straight NFC South title.

That game had no bearing on the Eagles’ first-round playoff picture, but the late game between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers could have an impact.

Here’s a look at how the seedings stand going into the Saturday night game.

1. Seahawks (13-3): Seattle will clinch the NFC West and top seed with a road win or tie at San Francisco. They will fall to the fifth seed if they lose.

2. Bears (11-5): Chicago will clinch the second seed and play at home in the Wild Card round against Green Bay with a home win over the Detroit Lions.

3. Eagles (11-5): The Eagles, who will be playing mostly backups, need a home win over the Washington Commanders and a Bears loss or tie against Detroit to move up to the second seed. As the third seed, they could play either the 49ers or Rams at home in the Wild Card round.

4. Buccaneers and Panthers (8-9): The Buccaneers need the Saints to beat the Falcons Sunday to clinch the NFC South. The Panthers need the Saints to win the game and create a three-way tie for first place that will fall in their favor.

5. 49ers (12-4): San Francisco needs a home win over the Seahawks to clinch its 23rd NFC West title and earn the top seed in the conference. Should the 49ers lose, they could slip to the sixth seed.

6. Rams (11-5): Rams coach Sean McVay said he will play his starters at home in the season finale against the Arizona Cardinals, but that might change if the 49ers beat the Seahawks. A Los Angeles win and San Francisco loss will vault the Rams to the fifth seed and pit them against the best of the bad NFC South bunch, but a Seattle win will leave the Rams as the sixth seed, meaning a trip to either Chicago or Philadelphia.

7. Packers (9-6-1): Green Bay is locked into the seven seed and will play mostly backups Sunday at Minnesota. The Packers will play either the Bears or Eagles in the Wild Card round.
