The 2025 NFL regular season is over, with all eyes looking towards the playoffs that, for the first time in his career, won’t include Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The two-time league MVP showed his support for NFL history as he congratulated a longtime on-field foe.
During the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals’ Week 18 season finale, defensive lineman Myles Garrett secured his 23rd sack of the season, taking down Joe Burrow. Garrett becomes the new record holder, passing the previously tied marks set initially by Michael Strahan and J.J. Watt. Mahomes chimed in as people across the country showed their appreciation on social media.
Garrett has recorded a sack on Mahomes in each of their three regular-season matchups. He is now etched in history for earning the prestigious league honor as the best pass rusher. The accomplishment came in the 17th regular-season game, as the previous record was set in 16 games before the league decided to extend the season by an extra game.
Both the Chiefs and Browns will be spectators in the playoffs this year, but they have pieces that could put them in contention in 2026.
