FOXBOROUGH – Young quarterbacks will be the main attraction during this summer’s Patriots training camp.
On Tuesday, Mike Vrabel said the team has finalized two joint practice sessions for his first camp as the Patriots coach.
Prior to the team’s first preseason game, the Patriots will welcome the Washington Commanders for practice in the second week of August. The next week, the Patriots will travel to Minnesota where they’ll practice against the Vikings leading up to their second preseason game.
“I think for sure that the Washington Commanders will come here and then they’ll play us,” Vrabel said. “And then we are excited to go to Minnesota. It’s a good setup that they have. It allows for great work. The Vikings have an excellent football team, and we have worked with them before, so we’re excited to go back up there.”
Both sets of practices will feature second-year starting quarterbacks.
Washington will come to Foxborough with Jayden Daniels, who was drafted one spot ahead of Maye in 2024. Those practices will be a fun look at two of the most promising young quarterbacks in the NFL.
Since the Patriots play the Commanders on Friday, August 8, it’s likely the team will practice against Washington on August 5 and 6 of that week.
When they go to Minnesota, the Patriots will get a look at another young quarterback in J.J. McCarthy. After he missed his rookie season due to injury, McCarthy is the Vikings projected starter this season.
The Patriots will face the Vikings for their second preseason game on Saturday, August. 16. They’ll likely have joint practices on August 13 and 14.
