Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters definitely wants more of Laremy Tunsil.
Monday, at the annual postseason press conference, Peters was asked how he would evaluate the impact the left tackle had on the Commanders this season and whether there have been any talks about a possible contract extension.

“I think his impact on the team was really outstanding, both on the field and in the locker room,” replied Peters. “He’s a great leader, and he’s really not upfront about it. He’s an outstanding leader and an outstanding mentor to the other O-Linemen. He’s a really good teammate in a lot of ways that you don’t really see because he’s not really looking for attention.”
Tunsil has 139 games of NFL experience under his belt, and it had to be disappointing for him to see his former team, the Houston Texans, still qualify for the playoffs. At the same time, the Commanders turned their 2024 12-5 season completely upside down, finishing 5-12 in 2025.
Tunsil qualified for five Pro Bowls in his previous NFL seasons with the Dolphins and Texans, but did not this season with the Commanders. Yet there was little doubt amongst those following the team that Tunsil was the best player this season on the Washington offense.
“It’s been really awesome to get to know him, to see how he goes about his business; he’s a hard worker. And then on the field, I thought he was one of the better left tackles in the league. He didn’t get recognition for the Pro Bowl, which I was disappointed in, but you look at the metrics, he did a great job.”

Peters then made it clear he wants to get a deal done.
“That’s all to say, we have had constant communication. He is self-represented, but he has a team around him that we have had constant communication with throughout the year. I think what I can say is we definitely want to get something done with him and sooner rather than later.”
Thus, plan A for Peters appears to be to attempt to re-sign Tunsil and keep the former Ole Miss tackle a Commander for the next few seasons. Tunsil has already posted on social media that he wants the negotiations to begin.
