INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have already made a flurry of moves since the end of the season, beginning the process of building the roster back to 90 players in the offseason.
Indianapolis claimed a linebacker, John Bullock, off waivers from Tampa Bay on Monday, and the Colts have signed 17 players to reserve/future contracts, ensuring they will spend at least a portion of the offseason with the Colts.
A reserve/future contract is a non-guaranteed one-year deal for any player who wasn’t on an active roster at the end of the regular season, which means those deals are typically reserved for developmental players who have spent most of the season on the practice squad.
But that doesn’t mean that all of the players Indianapolis signed are simply camp bodies. The Colts signed 17 players to reserve/future deals at the start of 2025; five of those players ended up playing regular-season snaps for the Colts — linebacker Austin Ajiake, defensive end Durell Nchami, tight end Sean McKeon, guard Josh Sills and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell.
Ajiake played the biggest role for Indianapolis this season. The third-year linebacker carved out a role on the strong side and played 157 defensive snaps, making 18 tackles and a half-sack; Ajiake also led the Colts with 14 special-teams tackles while playing 299 snaps in the kicking game, the third-most on the team.
The Colts have already signed Ajiake to a one-year deal for 2026 as an exclusive-rights free agent, a contract that can be offered to a player with less than three accrued seasons and an expired contract. Exclusive rights free agents are only eligible to sign a minimum deal with their previous team, as long as the team wants to retain their services.
