While making a case for his NFL future, Russell Wilson might’ve put the New York Giants in hot water. Wilson revealed to reporters on Monday that he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring tear before his team’s Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
“I’m not blinking,” Wilson said when asked if he plans to keep playing.
“I know what I’m capable of. I think I showed that in Dallas, and I want to be able to do that again. You know, and just be ready to rock and roll, and be as healthy as possible and be ready to play ball.
“You know, I played that [Week 2] game, you know, I tore my hamstring on Friday in practice — the last play of practice. And I had a grade two [tear]. I couldn’t tell anybody. I had to go and play on it just because I knew the circumstance, I had to play on it, no matter what.
“I actually ended up going to the Dallas Mavericks’ facility, training. And, you know, kept it quiet, just trying to get treatment on it and just knowing that I probably couldn’t run from the goal line to the 10-yard line if I wanted to, but I feel like, you know, I got to play this game.”
This injury was never disclosed to the NFL, which means the NFL could open up an investigation against the Giants.
Despite the injury, Wilson had a banner day against the Cowboys, throwing for 450 yards in the 40-37 overtime loss to Dallas.
Realizing that he might’ve put the Giants in jeopardy of discipline from the league office, Wilson clarified his comments.
“Not the @Giants fault!” he wrote on X. “They didn’t know bc I didn’t want to tell anyone bc of the circumstances. “I just had to play through it to try and go ball that day! Thought we were going to Win that wild crazy game!”
Greg Giannotti of WFAN blasted Wilson for his comments.
“You can’t do that to the organization. And if I’m the organization, I’m thinking that he’s doing this to screw us because he knows he’s not going to be here,” Giannotti said on his morning show on WFAN, via Instagram. “He’s pissed off that he got benched. He’s now talking about how nobody talked about my hamstring injury. They just talked about how much I sucked. And on his way out, he’s going to give the NFL something to look into and possibly fine the organization.
“There was absolutely no reason to bring that up yesterday, other than to make him look better and make the Giants look worse. So it’s stuff like that that Russell Wilson does that makes people say, ‘I’m not sure if I want this guy in my locker room.’”

Wilson, who spent one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, was demoted three times with the Giants in 2025, but his confidence in being a starting quarterback in the NFL has not wavered.
The 37-year-old was asked in November about his football future and he showed no signs of wanting to hang up his cleats anytime soon.
“Yeah, I definitely want to be able to (start again). I know what I’m capable of,” Wilson said via SNYGiants. “I know what I’ve done. I know a couple games here and there haven’t gone our way, but I’m just excited about the next opportunity to step between the white lines, and that’s how I’ve always been. I’m not gonna stop swinging. That’s just what I know.”
