Bills face the road ‘for the first time in a long time’ in the postseason

The last time Buffalo played a road game in the Wild Card was Jan. 7, 2018. Coincidentally, that game was also against Jacksonville. Heading into Sunday, though, the Bills know they can travel and are prepared for what’s ahead.

McDermott said he’s confident in his team’s road game preparation and Buffalo’s ability adapting to its situation.

“It doesn’t matter where we play at. We’re going to bring the Bills way there,” cornerback Christian Benford said. “Play our Super Bowl caliber type of ball.”

The Bills’ defense, specifically, found its success away from home in the back half of the regular season. In 2025 as a whole, Buffalo ranks fourth in points allowed per game (19.3) and fifth in yards allowed per game (289.6). The defense is also first in the NFL in pass yards allowed per game (140.5), second in yards allowed per attempt (6.1) and third in pass touchdowns allowed (7).

“It’s fun going on the road. I like it a lot actually, just being able to just have that mentality of you and your guys against everybody else,” defensive end Greg Rousseau said. “We embrace that and, I mean, we’re excited. We could play anywhere.”

Home or away, Buffalo has a “back against the wall” mindset no matter who its opponent is.

“We’re going on the road for the first time in a long time in the Wild Card. So, different atmosphere going against a really good team that’s playing really good football right now. So, going to have our hands full,” Allen said. “And this is what playoff football is all about.”
