So, the Detroit Lions are going to interview David Blough — are the Washington Commanders?

Blough, the Commanders‘ assistant quarterback coach, is going to rise high, and the Commanders, if not careful, are going to lose out to another team. The Lions‘ offensive coordinator Ben Johnson departed following the 2024 season, and the Lions hired Johnny Morton. Well, Morton only got one season, and Dan Campbell gave Morton his pink slip.

Blough is apparently now a target of the Lions’ Campbell. Commanders head coach Dan Quinn determined his offensive coordinator, Kliff Kingsbury, is not a good fit for where Quinn wants to go philosophically in the future. Does Quinn already have a commitment from someone to succeed Kingsbury?

Did Quinn talk with Blough for the job? It is understandable if Quinn wants someone with more experience than Blough, yet that doesn’t seem to be a problem for Campbell. Perhaps quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard would have been a good fit, but he has already departed to become the new head coach at Stanford.

Does Campbell really want Blough? Or might Campbell simply be interviewing Blough to see how much he can learn regarding Kingsbury’s offense? Will Quinn offer Blough a promotion, or will he permit Blough to simply reunite with Kingsbury?

Where does Brian Johnson fit into this equation? He seemed to be the second in command on Kingsbury’s offensive staff. Does Dan Quinn think Johnson is ready and will simply elevate him? Or is Johnson going to be viewed as the guy who caused the frustrating offensive swoon season for the Eagles in 2023?

One thing we can be certain of is that quarterback Jayden Daniels is not happy and will need to learn a new offense in year 3. Remember in February 2024 when the encouraging vibe was the continuity, the experience, the smooth transitions, what would take place in Dan Quinn’s staff?

Well, that didn’t last long. Two years, two new coordinators, and perhaps an entire new coaching staff, depending upon whom the new coordinators want to hire.

Can’t you imagine how happy Jayden Daniels must be now?
